APP Development
Swingometer
After watching my students struggle with grasping the nuances of swing feel for years, I developed the SwingOmeter to demystify the concept. The app helps students explore and understand the varying degrees of swing feel across musical styles. By using the SwingOmeter, students have been able to significantly accelerate their learning and develop a deeper, more multidimensional understanding of swing feels, making their performances more authentic and stylistically versatile.
GrooveLab App
The GrooveLab app was developed during the pandemic to create an engaging and interactive learning experience in a virtual environment for my students and new learners. It allows students to select from a variety of instruments and rhythmic patterns through a web page, which dynamically changes in real-time as I perform alongside the loop they collaboratively build. The selections are voted on by the group, and the option with the most votes is triggered live. This interactive format not only empowers students to shape the composition, but also helps them explore new approaches to a modular compositional approach, improvisation, and the interaction between rhythms and melodies in a live, collaborative setting. It has been a powerful tool to motivate students to experiment and engage more deeply with music-making.
